How to work with Beta Versions

When you’re part in our beta program (exclusive to Premium Users at the moment only), you will regulary receive notifications for new beta versions of our plugins and (sometimes) our themes.

In this article we’re going to explain what you need to consider by using a beta version from us.

1. Backup, Backup, Backup

It’s not that anything could go wrong, but still it could go wrong. So please make sure to fully backup your site before you proceed with installing and using a beta version. This is just to be on the safe side.

To backup your site there are various solutions available. You can read more about this here.

2. Live Site, Staging Site, Dev Site

In the end this is up to you, but of course we’d recommend to only test out beta versions on Dev or Staging Sites.

3. Installing and using the Beta Version

Since we currently do not have any automatic system behind this which will automatically install a beta on your site and rolls back when there is something wrong, you have to manually install the beta on your site. For this, the most simple method is probably to just use SFTP/FTP.

Connect via SFTP/FTP to your site, browse to the wp-content/plugins folder, rename the plugins folder of which you want to upload the beta version to something else and upload the folder from within the ZIP you’ve got from us instead (make sure the folder had the same name)

Example: You’re receiving a beta version of WPCasa. The plugins folder for WPCasa is simply: wpcasa. So browse to wp-content/plugins and rename the folder wpcasa to something like wpcasa-old for example. Then upload the wpcasa folder from the ZIP you’ve got from us into wp-content/plugins.

4. Report Bugs and Issues

If you’ve found a bug or an issue you would like to report, please simply post it here: https://github.com/wpsight/wpcasa or report it from here
